Our guest instructor for this year is Mutsuko Minegishi Sensei, 7th Dan, the highest graded female instructor in Aikikai.
If you are planning to live-in, we suggest you register and book as early as possible. Due to the incomplete renovations to University College they don't have as many rooms with ensuite facilities as they had forecast to us. This year will be a mix of rooms between University College and St Hilda's College.
Each year Aiki Kai Australia holds a national Summer School in January at which students attend from all over the country. Often times we invite a significant, senior international instructor as a guest to this event and this coming year's guest will be Minegishi Sensei. Last year we were fortunate enough to have the great grandson of the Founder of Aikido and current Dojo-Cho, Mitsuteru Ueshiba.
This national school is an extraordinary experience for students of all grades as it provides a wonderful breadth of training. In addition, we also welcome anyone associated with Aikiki internationally to join in the classses when the international instructors are teaching.
These national events should be put into the diary for everyone who is serious about their training as the level of experience is much greater than can ever be achieved within a dojo environment. An important aspect is simply being able to daily attend a multiple of classes over an extended period of time. You get into the groove of training, both physically and mentally, as one experience is quickly reinforced by the next. A week at a national event could easily be equated to six months of more sporadic dojo training. Attendance at national events is a prerequisite to sit for dan gradings.
