Dave Robinson, Sho-dan: Children's Instructor
I first started Aikido in Mandurah W.A.
Once a week I travelled to Waroona to train with a junior class where the students ranged from 9 years old to 16 years old. I was 20 years old which made for interesting training. At least it was one more night a week for me to study. This went on for a year before work made me relocate.
Not long after I found myself on the Gold Coast and quickly discovered the dojo at West Burleigh. I recommenced my studies under the direction of Graham Morris Sensei and over the last three and a half years Aikido has become a huge part of my life.
Having had wonderful experience training in a children’s class for a year I was happy to put up my hand when assistance was called for to teach a children’s class.
I believe Aikido has plenty to offer children who like a bit of rough and tumble as well as for those who need to find their feet even if they have 2 left feet, and for those needing to build confidence in a non competitive environment.
Dave successfully took his Shodan test at the 2007 national summer school in Launceston, Tasmania.
Dave used to take the Monday afternoon children's class at Burleigh but now takes the Saturday morning children's class at mudgeeraba. His son is now three years old and just loves getting onto the mats with his father.
