About Us

Seiichi Sugano, 8th Dan Aikikai
Born in 1939 in Otaru, Hokkaido, Seichi Sugano entered the Aikikai in Tokyo in 1957, becoming a full time, live-in student one year later. He moved to Australia in 1965 to teach aikido, and was one of the pioneers in disseminating the art further abroad through travels to New Zealand, Belgium, and other European countries. Admitted to the rank of 8th Dan, Sugano Shihan taught with Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan at the New York Aikikai. He passed away on 29 August 2010.


Aiki Kai Australia
Aiki Kai Australia was founded in 1965 by S. Sugano Shihan under the direct authorisation of O'Sensei. The Association has representatives in all States and Territories.

Aiki Kai Australia is recognised by the Aiki Kai Foundation and the Aikido World Headquarters, Tokyo. It has been a recognised grading and teaching authority since 1965. Please visit the Aiki-Kai Australia website for more information.


Aikido WA
Established in 1982, Aikido WA is the Western Australian branch of Aiki Kai Australia. We are the only aikido organisation directly related to the International Aikido Federation (IAF) in Western Australia.

Nick Archbold (3rd Dan) is the official WA Area Representative for Aiki Kai Australia.

Aikido WA has dojos in the Perth metropolitan area, as well as Albany in the South West of the State, and Broome and Newman in the North West.
